Pesticide News :: June 2005.
OK, so it’s been awhile since we’ve updated the site, smartass. Well if you’d been doing all the shit we’ve been doing then maybe you wouldn’t have had a lot of time to update a website either. So there.
Before talking about what we’ve been doing, here are two shows you should go to. Coming up, we’re playing our first all-ager of the year at the Bronson centre on June 24th.
06/24 - The Holy Mountain (No Idea recs), I.C.B.M, four-stroke, NFG (ex-Donner Party), Take One For The Team, Germ Attak @ Bronson Center (211 Bronson Ave.) - AA/5:30pm/$6
This show will be intense, so much so you won’t even notice the fact that you can’t buy a drink…
The next day we’ll be playing an outdoor show/party in BOrleans with almost 20 bands. Check out http://www.punkottawa.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=36096 for info, and check out the show!
SO… what have we been up to since February?
First off, shows. We’ve played some shows. The moral hazard final show(s) were fucking intense what I can remember of them, anyhow, we did two sets and I think that we had 3 rounds of shots bought for us during the second set. Suffice it to say that moral hazard’s final sendoff was, appropriately enough, a booze-sodden outpouring of raucous noise.
four-stroke got together with Yogi at Yogis Meat Locker on April 2nd (Papal Deathwatch 2005) to lay down the first ever four-stroke tracks. We got some pretty decent sounds out of it, and so far we’ve put together a cdr (called “…try to imagine how much I care…” that we’ll sell you cheap ($6). We’re also going to have tracks on two upcoming comps, more on those when they come out.
four-stroke shows? well, we’ve done three so far this spring. May 7th we put on a show at Irene’s Pub it was supposed to be the G-men, Good2Go, four-stroke and the Bella Bombs… but at the last minute the G-Men’s drummer got sick so Blackball stepped in and stepped up to bat. We winded up playing our first headlining show as four-stroke, and while we may need to fine-tune our timing (so as not to get too drunk before going on stage) we had a fucking blast, and all the bands put on amazing sets.
May 21st we took it on the road to go play springbash at spiderland acres, with (among others) Ab Irato and the Ruffianz from Montreal. It was fun, and we will definitely be back.
June 8th we had a last minute show opening for the Junior Pantherz at Zaphods, turnout was kinda light but we had a good fun and the JP’s were a great bunch of guys. Big thanks to Tom who’s one of the best soundguys in town.
We may be organizing a pretty big show in July, I’ll try to update the site if that happens… I know, promises, promises.

Pesticide News :: October/November 2004
Hi it’s been awhile since we’ve posted anything on here, so this update is going to have to cover a lot of ground…
First of all, the bad news. After nearly five years of subjecting Ottawa and nearby cities to our torturous vibrations, moral hazard is calling it quits. We plan to do a farewell show, probably sometime in December. We’ll post more info when there’s more info to post.
Now the good news. Barney Rebel and Ken Vermin are going to continue to play in four-stroke, along with new members Vaun Von Vaughn and Mike Marauder. Vaun has been active in Ottawa bands for a looong time, having been in legendary bands such as Neanderthal Sponge and Mumbleweed, and also drums and sings for Harshey, while Mike hails from Timmins and also plays bass with Russell’s Big Day. The new and improved four-stroke will be playing our first show on November 12th 2004, opening up for Zeke, the Black Halos, and the Sick Fits at Babylon in Ottawa. This will be a killer show, so go.

Pesticide News :: May 2004
It’s been awhile since our last update in the meantime we haven’t been idle. In February we played a great welcome home show at the Chateau Lafeyette, and we had a great turnout and we had a great time.
April was a busy month on the 3rd we played at the Cock and Lion with Uninspired Empire and QuickFix. Then, April 8th we did a live radio show at CKCU with Charles Anthony check back in the future, we will probably rip some mp3 from this performance and put them on the site. Finally, we finished off April with a great show at Zaphods with Good2Go and the Bella Bombs.
This month we’re going Back to the Base The Kyrenia Club at CFB Petawawa will be hosting moral hazard and the Bella Bombs on Friday May 14th. This show is FREE to military personnel and their guests.
Summer is around the corner, so keep checking back, we'll post confirmed shows as they firm up!
P.S got new pix in the photos section.

Pesticide News :: January/February 2004
First of all: moral hazard t-shirts and buttons are IN! You can buy them at shows, or email moralhazard@hotmail.com if you can’t wait that long, go to our merch section!
Second of all get ready for some ass-kicking! Saturday February 21st, 2004, Pesticide Records and Live at the LAF Presents:
NEW VENUE: THIS SHOW HAS BEEN MOVED FROM BUMPERS ROADHOUSE TO THE CHATEAU LAFEYETTE
moral hazard, the Botched Suicides, the Weapons of Mass Seduction, and the Bella Bombs
Chateau Lafeyette, 42 York Street, Ottawa. 19+, $ by donation Doors at 9 PM.
This will be a show not to miss. moral hazard singer General deNoregard is back from his Afghan campaign, and has ordered his loyal troops to effect a regime change at Bumpers Roadhouse at all costs.
The liberating army of moral hazard will be supported by our very own coalition of the willing. Foremost in the ranks will be the Bella Bombs, an estrogen fueled 4 piece from Ottawa that plays loud and fast punk rawk 'n roll that will blow your mind!! The Weapons of Mass Seduction will be deploying their unique blend of Garage and Punk with no regards for the Geneva conventions. And the Botched Suicides, who’ve been lying low for months, will be dragged from their spider hole to settle their accounts (or at least their bar tabs).
This show is going to make the world safe for punk rock. Be there, or be scared...

Pesticide News :: December 2003
Well, it’s that time of year again, time to pawn your soul for some shoddy trinkets that will soon be lost by your loved ones…..
Since our last update we played two sets at the all-day punk show at Bumpers on November 22nd, and General DeNoregard drank enough booze to keep him warm for the rest of the frigid Afghan Winter. Everyone who went to that show can be proud, we basically drank Bumpers dry! By the time the show was over, the only thing left in the beer fridge was about 12 Coors Light. Give yourselves a pat on the back (and a half-dozen aspirins…)
Big thanks to Andy Rat from the Sewer Rats for setting that up, also big thanks to The Blackball, The Alter Egos, Radiodazed, The Creeps, The Sewer Rats, The Nukes, Sunday Riot and A.D.D. for making it a great show, and The Riptides for their surprise guest set. And of course all you who came out for it. Apologies to anyone who lost a hand to my crappy cheap wristbands…
And deepest sympathy to the Bella Bombs, who should’ve played the show but couldn’t due to an unfortunate bout of Chicken Pox. Catch the Bella Bombs at Zaphods on December 12th and/or at the Manotick Arena on December 13th. (check out www.thebellabombs.com for more details)
Well, we’ve got some good news and some bad news… bad news first:
The Anti Xmas Show that we were working on for December 13th is not going to happen. The less said about that the better, but this fiasco has elf fingerprints and reindeer hoofprints all over it. This isn’t over, Mr. Claus. Not by a long shot.
Good News moral hazard will be unveiling the first moral hazard t-shirts in a couple of weeks. You heard it here first. They will obviously be available at any moral hazard or four-stroke show, but if you want to buy one before (ugh) xmas, drop us a line…

Pesticide News :: October 2003
It’s been awhile since our last update, but we’ve been pretty busy in the meantime!
The Prison Justice Day show was great. Thanks to everyone involved in putting on the show and everyone who was there!
In September four-stroke played our second show, the Nads C.D. release party. Thanks a lot to Jason for putting us on the bill.
On November 8th four-stroke will be playing another show at Bumpers organized by Jason Ramone, this one is composed entirely (I think) of bands that were on the Kick ‘em while they’re down Vol. 2 comp. (Well, technically four-stroke were not on the comp, but moral hazard is, so…) The lineup is: The Creeps, Good 2 Go, The Nads, four-stroke and The Antennas 19+/8:30pm/$5 The first 50 people get a free Manufacturing Dissent Comp CD, so go early. This promises to be a great night!
Two weeks later, get ready for the triumphant return of General DeNoregard!!! That’s right, the General will be back for a short period, and to celebrate, moral hazard will be occupying Bumpers, in conjunction with our loyal allies Radiodazed, the Alter Egos, and Blackball. $6, 9PM, 19+, at Bumpers, 580 Bank Street, Saturday November 22nd. You’ve been warned…
Three weeks after that, four-stroke, in conjunction with Django Django and the Boffus Trio are setting up an Anti-Xmas Show. Stay tuned to find out who, what, when, why, and how.
In other news, Blackball have been very busy. They’ve been playing a bunch of shows around Ottawa, and they recorded a bunch of songs at Little Bullhorn Studio. Look for a 10” vinyl release to come out in the spring.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------>>>>Pesticide News :: August 2003
The show on July 19th was fantastic. Great turnout, and all four bands kicked some serious ass. Big thanks to the Liquor Pigs for coming all the way from Toronto, and thanks to both the Bella Bombs and Guillotine for coming out.
There won’t be any more moral hazard shows while the General is overseas, but in the meantime the rest of us won’t be idle: We’ve formed a new band, four-stroke, consisting of the four moral hazard members apart from the General, and we’ll be playing a few shows around Ottawa and maybe even out of town.
Our first show will be a Prisoner's Justice Day Benefit on Saturday the 9th of August. Come and check it out, we’ll be playing some moral hazard material, some covers, some songs lifted from our previous bands, and some songs that will probably become moral hazard songs.
August 9, Prisoner's Justice Day Benefit, Bumper's
The Getalongs, four-stroke (Members of moral hazard), The Weapons of Mass Seduction
Doors @ 9pm, 19+, $5
All proceeds go to the Infinity Lifers' Liaison Group (ILLG) and the General Defense Committee (GDC) of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) for prisoner's support and legal defense.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------>>>>Pesticide News :: July 2003
moral hazard had a great time playing the Kyrenia Club on the base of the Royal Canadian Regiment at CFB Petawawa. We'll post some pictures soon, including the ones where a lobster came crawling out of General de noRegard's fly. Thanks to everyone who came out and drank the bar dry!
We're gearing up for a great summer show July 19th. Veteran party animals The Liquor Pigs will be joining moral hazard on stage at Bumpers Roadhouse for a night of blood, sweat and beers. Rounding out the bill will be two new bands: Guillotine (mainly ex-and current Million Dollar Marxists) and the Bella Bombs, a new all-female punk band founded by ex-members of Spygirl, Vicious Dick, Snatchbandits, the Syrenz, The Worst, and more. It's going to be a fucking crazy night, so don't miss it! $7 at the door, 9PM, 19+ (wink wink).
This will probably be the last moral hazard show before General deNoregard and his buddies from the Royal Canadian Regiment head off to keep the peace in Afghanistan. Good luck guys, and a warning to the Talibaddies - you might want to run away to Hideoutistan, Somewherelsistan, or Surrendarabia for the next six months or so if you want to see your next birthday.
The rest of us will fight off the ennui by playing a few shows under different names while we wait for the General to return and lead us. Keep tuned for details.
A correspondent recently told me that there are some references to Snatchbandits in Punk Rules OK, a new book by Chris Walter, published by Burn Books. Apparently the book follows the adventures of a Vancouver punk who finds a backpack containing a million dollars. I expect that there is beer involved, I'll let you know more when I've read the book! Check out Burn Books' website at http://www.burnbooks.ca/
That's all for now!
